Academy 2017 – 18 Update

The St Peter FC Academy has started the season in style with the Under 18’s and Under 16’s heading their respective leagues and both booking their places in Cup Finals. The Under 15’s, Under14’s and under 13’s have also made good starts to this seasons campaigns without being quite as dominant as the two senior sides. Ian Solomon and his coaching team are doing an incredible and dedicated job in developing the raw talent that they had at their disposal.

The talent oozes through the Academy throughout all the age groups and if these youngsters can keep everything in perspective, continue to work hard at their game and adopt the right lifestyles I am sure that some of these players have the ability to play at the highest levels in the years to come.

The contractual arrangement with St Georges Preparatory School whereby St Peter Academy can use the magnificent facilities for both training and playing their home matches is a fantastic benefit to our youngsters. Thanks to Gary Freeman the floodlights at St Georges has been overhauled and now offers a high standard of floodlighting helping us to overcome the restrictions that are placed on our own training area subject to it being adjacent to the airport runway.

We are delighted and very proud that Altair Partners have shown the confidence in us to become our new lead sponsor for the next three years. All Academy team shirts now proudly carry the Altair logo. Thank you, Altair, we aim to reward your generosity by playing the game in the right spirit and bringing home some silverware into the bargain.

On the subject of sponsorship, we are also most grateful to Jacksons for their continued support. Without the financial backing of our sponsors we could not have the same ambitious programme that we are currently able to offer our young players. We still have a number of packages available and if you, your company or indeed if you know of a company that would like to be part of a highly successful enterprise that is solely for the benefit of the local community’s youngsters between the ages of 6 to 18 please contact Steve House or Brian Foulser or any member of our Academy Committee.

Our link with Gillingham FC goes from strength to strength and another four of our talented youngsters are currently training with their professional club’s counterparts this very week.

Sol Solomon, Ryan Marcinko, Damien Salmon and Danny Fernandes will in addition to training and being coached by professional coaches, represent Gillingham FC Academy v AFC Wimbledon and Peterborough United. This is a fantastic opportunity for any young player.

The season has a long way to go but our aim is to be successful on the pitch and to always conduct ourselves in a proper way. We have a number of exciting events planned for the rest of the season including responding to an invitation from Everton FC to take a team to Goodison Park with all the trimmings and to play a couple of fixtures. Professional coaches will be attending St Peter. Further visits to Gillingham will provide opportunities for more of our talented youngsters. We will be entering 3 teams into the Sartilly International Tournament and organising an Under 18 preseason tour of Kent to play three games including a match v Gillingham FC Under 18’s.

Thank you to everyone in the Club for the support you give to the Academy it is so very much appreciated by players, coaches and the Academy Committee.
