Under 15’s in the Cup Report

The U15s where drawn against Grouville in the Dave Melton Memorial Trophy. Grouville started quickly and played some nice football as was expected. The early pressure paid off and after  15 minutes Grouville took the lead from a low driven cross across the six yard box duly converted by their left winger.   St Peter kept their heads up and played some great football from the back with the centre backs happy to play the ball into the feet of the midfield, within 10 minutes St Peter were level as a the result of a great run by Mark Boarer and an equally quality off the ball run by Natasha, creating the space for Mark to drive the ball into the top right hand corner from the edge of the box, a truly exceptional strike. Grouville came back strong, St Peters managed to end the half at 1-1 courtesy of a great one handed save by Matthew from a close range header and Calum clearing the ball off the line from another attack. St Peter started strong in the second half and the quality of the one touch passing in the middle of the park was a joy to watch. St Peter appeared to have a greater urgency to their game and were a yard quicker, despite all the possession and some exceptional football  St Peter where unable to create a clear chance at goal, a credit to the organisation of the Grouville defence. In the last 15 minutes of the game St Peter game under increasing pressure from Grouville attacks, the back four stood up well and put in some truly awesome blocks and tackles and looked a very solid unit. Whilst St Peter had been playing the ball from the back through the midfield it was a long ball over the top by  Dan that found Mark Boarer and the advancing Grouville keeper, Mark kept his cool and lifted the ball with pure quality over keeper 2-1.  How long left ref? 3 minutes!!    In the last minute of the game Grouville beat the offside trap but drove the ball wide much to the relief of all concerned.  It was a truly great result, a fantastic team effort with all the players giving their all and leaving nothing off the pitch. So St. Peter advance to the semi final of the cup to meet St Clement on the 9th November LQ 2.30 KO, ensure you put the date in your Diary. It has been a great start to the season with the whole squad having gelled and clearly enjoying themselves, which has been reflected in the quality of the football to date. Keep it up.
