Jersey Wanderers vs. St. Peter’s
It was a Lovely day down Jersey Wanderers pitch, with St. Peter’s going into the fixture with a strong side and looking to prove a point.
Wanderers were the quickest out the blocks with a few early half chances but Peter’s were quick to raise to the occasion dominating the first 15-20 minutes.
Strong running down the left from ollie Norton and Ryan Marcinko tested the full backs getting to the byline numerous times and producing good balls into the box.
There was more good work from the lone striker Toby Ritzema, who does well to hold the ball whilst the midfield trio of Tommy Boarer, Rhys Thomas and Jack Le Moignan join the attack, the ball finds its way to Jan Bentley who is unlucky and sends it just over the bar.
Low lying sun made it difficult for our defenders with several long balls over the top, however the height, strength and pace of Tom McDermot and Levi Wright dealt well with the pressure.
Another St. Peter’s attack soon comes when a Lovely through ball from Tommy Boarer finds Toby Ritzema, but he is unable to capitalise on it.
Finally a breakthrough comes when a Clearance/through ball from Levi wright finds the lively Ryan Marcinko on the end of it, he Manages a left footed shot to beat the keeper. 1-0 St. Peter’s.
Our midfield continue to work well together, with a string of passes from Tommy Boarer and Rhys Thomas cutting the defence open.
First half ends 1-0
Jersey wanderers come out for the second half intent on making life difficult for St. Peter’s, and at times committing fouls. But St. Peter’s are equal to the challenge and match them for energy all over the pitch. Another chance sees some Lovely feet from Ryan Marckinko, taking it round keeper unable to finish with the goal gaping.
It wasn’t long before Ryan has another opportunity to double St. Peter’s advantage bending a free kick round the wall but can only hit the post, much to the delight of the wanderers keeper who was well beaten.
Wanderers really pressed for an equaliser and eventually did find one as the defence failed to deal with a ball over the top.
The game then gets a bit scrappy with a number of fouls and stoppages.
As St. Peter’s try and get on the front foot again, a horror tackle sees the wanderers midfielder get a straight red for a dangerous tackle.
The firery encounter ends 1-1 with St. Peter’s unlucky not to go away with all 3 points.
Stand out performances
Levi Wright – strong in the tackle, made a number of good clearances, one of which leads to a goal
Tom McDermott – good in the air, dealt with a lot of through balls very well.
Ollie Norton – his speed and strength caused issues down the left hand size. A constant threat going forward whilst also carrying out his defensive duties.
On to the next one boys!
