16’s away to St John

So before we knew it the 1st game of the season was upon us away against St John as you can imagine with a midweek game a double header for most of the boys who had played earlier on that evening however you wouldn’t have known by the way they went about the business, We started of slowly but then began to get into our rhythm with our wide players and midfield dominating and playing some great football from the wingbacks through the team.

We manage to go 1 behind believe or not which we were disappointed in however the boys responded really well with a couple of well worked goals coming from Ryan are U15 prodigy who’s been playing up and helping us out upfront working in tandem with Sol Solomon.

As the defence started to really dominate with the back 4 working tirelessly to keep St John at bay this meant our forwards and midfield could start to really impose themselves on the game.

Sol managed to notched couple of well taken goals as this kid knows were the onion bag is… his ability to find the extra yard in tight spaces in the box is something any young striker should watch and learn from.

St John as you can imagine never gave up the fight always trying to pressurise us into making mistakes however the boys worked really hard to keep them at bay.

With the score line at 4-1 we made some changes swapped a few players around which seemed to work really well with Ryan was on fire his link up play with Sol, Charlie, Hugo was excellent playing one, twos around the St Johns defenders it was a pleasure to watch throughout.

Ryan managed to score a couple more which he deserved as this kid is a real player he’s got skill pace and a determination to get that important goal… watch out U 16,17,18 strikers this boys coming after a spot in your sides.

With light fading Charlie broke clear to smash a goal from about 30 yards past the keeper who for some reason tried to kick it away and not use his hands, this s was a theme throughout the game however that keeper has got great feet to be fair. It came to the last 10 minutes of the game when Jack broke through to score a half volley from about 25 yards it was like a rocket absolute cracker.

After the game my thoughts are always not about the score line but how them team played as a group and how they took on board what type of football we want to see, and honestly after only spending a short time with the players they have all started to take on board the importance of high pressing game which will be the theme for the rest of the season..
