U16s Make History Again

St-Peter-Under-16-Beat-Guernsey-Sylvans---May-2014

On Sunday, our under 16 boys continued to make history for the club again! Not only did they win the league for the first time the other week, but then they went to a rain-sodden Springfield and lifted the Eric Amy cup for the first time in our history. A truly fantastic achievement!

Playing against Guernsey Sylvans, our boys met early at our club house to have a pre-match breakfast made by Carol and Mary. Then putting on their championship winning shirts the boys sat down to pre-match briefing before traveling to Springfield in style with our new Jackson sponsored club mini bus.

We were ready to go from the start but conceded an early goal by getting caught square by a long ball over the top. A few nerves were on show but we tried to play football the right way, although the elements didn’t help our natural game.

A few changes and we got back into the game with a fantastic strike from Conor! Then a few minutes later he scored again, 2-1 could we keep in front? No, the referee and his officials, whom were fantastically consistent, awarded a penalty 2-2 and extra time.

Our fitness started to shine through the glorious rain and we got back in front with two great strikes from Jody and Big Tomas banging one home. The final score was 5-2 to St Peter’s!!

As Luke and Jody raised the cup the boys singing ‘champions’ it was a joy to see and well deserved. Now we go to Guernsey on Star Wars day May the 4th for the Upton to try and do a fantastic Treble by getting crowned Channel Island champions. So two down and one to go !
