Clocks sprang forward and our boys were ready to take on St Paul’s in this so called title decider.
With a good warm up given and team picked could we stand up to the challenge of table of table topping St Paul’s. With the ref not turning up due to some mix up it was agreed that Solly should do all be it wearing a St Paul’s sweatshirt; (3 showers and a bath).
The game started and we did not give them a inch, pressing and making them make mistakes. Archie and Joe had the left hand side boxed off while Ash slotting in at right back had a fantastic game.It was getting close to half time when a long ball over the top caught our boys on the back foot and they finished it to go 1 goal to them.
H/T the boys were told just keep doing the right things and stay calm. A corner on the left with a quality delivery from Jason up rose Will 1-1 back in the game. Archie went off and got replaced by Conor and with him and Kyle then Jake they tormented their fullbacks a joy to watch.
Then after another foul Jason again knocked a cracking ball into the area only for Conor to head twice with the 2nd one going in 2-1 and well deserved. As you would think the game was now tight who would hold their nerve, a mistake Jack Burt chased as he did all day and delivered a difficult ball to defend it bounced up and the poor defender used his arm to knock back to the keeper, PENALTY given. Captain Jody stepped up ‘No Problemo’, pick it out the net, 3-1 and job nearly done.
Demps and Will kept there defense in shape while Jason and Tom were once again solid in the middle of the park. Cometh the hour cometh the wonder strike! Jake Huckerby fired a high long ball across the box to the far side Conor waited and hit one of the sweetest volleys into the far corner fantastic goal.
They got a goal with a cross come shot in the last seconds of the game but it was over a 4-2 win to us, two more league games to play and we could be well deserved champions. But we take each game as it comes
A big thanks to the fantastic support from parents and Andy for running our line.
