A big welcome to all players and parents of the St Peter FC Academy.
2019/20 season – The 101st season of the Club.
St Peters FC Academy welcomes all players, parents, coaches, sponsors and supporters to a new season. The 2019/20 season promises to be an exciting but challenging one.
Our facilities at both Rue des Vignes St Peter and St Georges Preparatory School are looking in really good condition, despite the long dry spell of weather, thanks to the careful preparation put in by our fine team of groundsmen at both venues. As usual we start this season with our two soccer schools which are attended by young players from around the Island. On the 29th July Premier Giants Everton FC, are sending over 8 of their professional coaches to run the much-loved Everton Summer Camp. This is always an exciting occasion with the coaches applying their unique touch and humour to making this a really fun way of learning new skills. This year we are privileged that Jersey Dairy are sponsoring the event and providing the opportunity to purchase some of their first-class products like ice cream, milk and flavoured varieties etc. As Everton FC are fully aware that this is our centenary year, we feel sure that they will have some surprises in store.
The following week w/c 5th August, Southampton FC‘s Saints Foundation will be running their own soccer school at our St Georges venue. This will be run on a slightly different basis with fewer numbers and therefore providing the opportunity for greater level of one to one coaching. If you haven’t as yet registered there is still time to do so. You need to register directly with the Saints Foundation and full details are on the www.stpeterfc.com web site
This season our aim will be first and foremost, that all of our players enjoy their football both playing and the coaching sessions. It is important that you always listen carefully to your coaches and if anything isn’t clear, they will want you to let them know.
Remember at St Peter we set the standard for always playing the game in the right spirit.
Please remember to accept the referee’s decisions and never argue with them. Whilst we always go onto the pitch with the intention of winning, sometimes we will come up against teams who on the day may play better than us. Always respect your opponents and shake their hands and those of the officials, both before and after the game.
We have some very fine players in our Academy throughout all of the age groups and providing you listen carefully to your coaches and show determination and commitment, you can only continue to improve.
We are extremely proud of the fact that over the last couple of months 8 of our Academy players have either signed for professional clubs are have been invited to trial with them.
Our Under 18’s have been outstanding over the past 4 seasons and have been Jersey Champions in each of those years. Last season this group of players won every match they played in Cup and League in the Channel Islands including becoming Channel Island Champions by beating the champions of Guernsey and going on to beat the rest of Jersey.
We will also again be entering this team into the Kent FA County U 18 Youth Cup, a competition that has 64 entrants. Last season we reached the semi-final and although it’s a big ask, I am sure this year’s squad will be aiming to at least get to the final.
At the younger ages we want above all for you to develop your game, both with individual skills and concentration on teamwork. We want you to express yourself on the field of play. We appreciate during the learning process mistakes will be made. Whilst it’s our aim and it’s nice to win, the real gain is when you continue to improve as a player. The competitive element comes with our U 15 , U 16’s and U 18’s when winning becomes a priority whilst continuing to play the game in the right spirit.
We will continue to build on our relationship with Gillingham FC, as this offers our young players the opportunity to experience exactly what becoming a professional footballer entails. You spend time as a member of the Gillingham Academy and will represent them in a competitive match. It is also the perfect stage to demonstrate to them, the talent we have at St Peter.
It is our intention to enter our U 11, U13 and U 15 teams into the Joulleville Sartilly, French International Tournament at the end of June 2020.
We plan to invite professional coaches to work with our own coaching team to the benefit of our young players. You can be sure that if you have outstanding ability, we will ask our contacts in the pro game to take a look at you.
We have spoken about what St Peters can do for you and we would like to finish by asking you to do something for St Peters!
We would like to add to our playing numbers, in the middle age groups 12 to 15. We need your help to enable us to do so. Please speak to your school chums, friends and even next-door neighbours. If they like football let them know of the warm welcome, camaraderie, and great coaching that they will get at this club, invite them along to try us out. For every new player that you introduce, that signs for St Peter, the club will give you a £15 voucher of your choice just let your coach know of the introduction and they will progress your entitlement.
One final request is that we ask all parents to please pay the club subscription as soon as possible. The facilities, the activities and the kit and equipment are funded solely by our subscriptions, which are amongst the lowest in the Island and of course the kind generosity of our highly valued sponsors. Early payment is the best way to help us to keep the Academy viable and providing outstanding opportunities and facilities for all of our playing membership.
Good luck to you all for the season ahead, we look forward to the continued development of both individuals and teams. Enjoy your football and be proud to represent this fine club.
To all parents, thank you for your continued support and we look forward to meeting with you as the season progresses.
Your coaches will be touch with you soon to let you know when training will recommence.
On behalf of all our coaching team and all members of the Committee, Have a great season
Chairman St Peter FC Academy
