A message to all of our players, their parents and everyone associated with the Academy
As we approach the end of another year and the halfway stage in this seasons football programme we thought it would be a good time to assess where we stand as an Academy in Jersey junior football.
Overall the evidence suggests that we have continued to progress. The team performances have been consistently high and we are in a good position to win the league at under 18, under 16 under 15 and Under 13 and we have everything to play for at Under 17’s Under 14’s. Our mini section is decidedly healthy and we have some very good young players at Under 12 and 11’s. Ian Solomon tells us our newly formed girl’s squad is making really good progress and he is sure we will be ready for competitive matches next season.
The outstanding talent throughout all of the age groups is greater than at any time since the Academy commenced in 2010. The remarkable improvement in skills levels both individually and in team performances is a tribute to the coaching team who have risen to the challenge and have worked tirelessly to bring this about .Our heartfelt thanks must go to Ian Solomon our Head Coach and his team, for building on the high standards that were achieved last year. Our links with Gillingham FC continue to grow stronger and other young players will have the opportunity already enjoyed by 30 young players, to experience the benefit of spending a week being coached alongside the professional Clubs counterparts and appearing for Gillingham FC Academy in a competitive fixture. The next opportunity for four young players will be in February during half term.
We currently have more players in the Centre of Excellence than at any time in our history which is a reflection of how far we have come.
The most pleasing thing is the way our young players conduct themselves both on and off the pitch. Our aim is to set the example to all players of other clubs with whom we come into contact, by adhering to our core values of Respect– Sportsmanship– Teamwork—Discipline– and Enjoyment. Our thanks and appreciation goes to all of our young players for remembering the Academy’s ethics. We play to win but we do so in the right spirit and if on occasions we come second best let’s give credit to the opposition. Remember always to respect the officials they do their very best and without them the game could not properly function. Our new tracksuits are currently being issued they are extremely smart and provide the Academy with a clear identity and together with the success we are achieving on the pitch is hopefully promoting a real sense of pride in being a member of St Peter FC Academy.
We plan to enter some off Island International tournaments later in the season to test our abilities and more details will be issued in the next few weeks.
Our thanks to each and every person involved with St Peter FC for helping to give us the outstanding reputation that we have. I would also like on your behalf to express our sincere welcome and appreciation to our two new sponsors for placing their confidence in us, Le Masurier and Altair together with Jacksons who have been such a good friend to this club over a number of years we thank you for your superb generosity. Without your support we could not set our sights at the levels we do in providing the best facilities and the exciting and challenging opportunities that we are currently able to.
To all of our players and Coaches remember we are only at the halfway stage lets rise to the challenge avoid complacency, continue to work hard at developing your skills and your teamwork and you can have a real sense of achievement if you can win the league or a cup. If that isn’t to be, gain the satisfaction of improving your abilities and finish the season as a better player and a better team.
To each and every one of you, players, parents, coach’s helpers in any capacity and indeed our sponsors,
The Academy Committee wishes you a very Merry Christmas and a New Year that brings you good health, happiness and success in the challenges that you face.
Chairman St Peter FC Academy
