St Peter FC is delighted to announce the appointment of Ben Harvey as Director of Coaching. Ben, who was the first professional coach of the Jersey Rugby Club, achieved the extraordinary feat of winning 4 consecutive promotions and putting Jersey Rugby firmly on the National stage.
Ben will take overall responsibility for all Academy coaching matters including structure and co-ordination, he will also work closely with the Clubs first team Manager Gary Freeman and other senior team coaches to ensure a pathway into the senior game for the talented young players who are now emerging from the Academy.
Ben who has played Rugby for Bristol, Richmond, Worcester Warriors and Stourbridge before joining Pertemps Bees (formerly Birmingham and Solihull) in 2005 as player/coach. Ben represented England in Sevens and coached the Kenyan Sevens in 2004. In 2008 he was appointed professional Head Coach to Jersey Rugby Club and subsequently appointed Director of Rugby.
In 2010 and 2012 Ben Harvey was named Coach of the Year in Channel Televisions Sports Personality of the year awards.
Over the past few years Ben has been developing plans to enable athletes across all sports to fully optimize their abilities and potential as well as consulting on a wide variety of sporting matters outside of the Island.
He has always held a keen interest in many sports and soccer has always been high on his list having played for Exeter City until the age of 16 before choosing a career in Rugby.
Academy Chairman Brian Foulser said “it was vitally important that we found the right person to take us to the next level. Although we considered a number of options, just couple of discussions with Ben were enough to convince us that we needed to think outside the box and recognise the extraordinary skills and motivational talents that he has. I am sure he is excited by the challenge, his leadership qualities, vast experience and enthusiasm for the task will rub off on the talented coaching team that we have at St Peter”
Ben Harvey said “Having been introduced to the Club through the involvement of my son Sam, I am delighted that I have been asked by the Club to assist. Although much of my background has been in rugby in recent years, my role is to help Gary Freeman and the coaches with the coaching structure, individual coaching craft and the player pathway. The Club already has a terrific reputation and I look forward to helping in whatever way I can”
St Peter FC President Tom Du Feu said “The appointment of Ben Harvey will strengthen our coaching team from Senior First Team Manager Gary Freeman down to Mini Head Coach Mike Horman and benefit all players at Senior Men’s, Ladies and Academy sections.
It will improve our preparation of teams both on the training field and on match days. Every player of all ages and genders will have a pathway to enable them to progress to the highest level their abilities will allow. We are confident that Ben, with his vast experience, will enable the Club to achieve higher standards in this and future seasons”
