For the second time in three seasons our “C” Team headed out to Le Boulivot to play Grouville “C” in a league decider. Grouville needing a point and us all three the game was always going to be a bit of a nail bitter.
With a 6.00pm KO our boys were sent out fired up by the passionate encouragement of manager, Andy Forskitt and started very much on the front foot. Although possession was fairly even we were creating the better chances and took the lead through a great finish from the edge of the box by Ed Meighan who was a constant threat all evening. The play continued to be even and the score remained 1-0 at half time.
The second half brought more of the same, we started to get more control and were looking the more likely to score. Captain Andy Coleman and Jamie Drummond were holding the midfield against Grouville’s best players on the night Steve Ashton and Tommy Titshall. Lee Turner on the right of midfield was excellent, always an option out wide but working tirelessly to get back when we were not in possession and Ed always a threat down the right. The physical presence of Scott Welsh up front was also a constant threat and his hard work never allowed there back four to settle causing them to make many hurried clearances sprinkled with mistakes. Mid way through the 2nd half and a handball right on the edge of the box was adjudged to have been inside and referee Luke Nerac pointed to the spot. Calmness personified, the experienced Mark Stewart calmly made it 2-0 and we were in control of the game.
Continued good possession and hard work in midfield and with our back four of Jason Olliet, Nathan Trevor, Glen Horman and Ross Baron looking very solid we closed out the game and the 3rd Division Championship was retained.
Jersey Football Combination Vice President, Mark Le Cornu presented the trophy to Captain, Andy Coleman.
Congratulations to Andy Forskitt and his squad for another successful campaign and the spirit within the squad which sees them close their season with a trip to Bournemouth in early May.
