Guernsey BWCI report

St Peter report from visit to Guernsey BWCI year 5 football tournament. Let’s start by saying all the boys turned up on time donned our Red St Peter T shirts and boy did they look the part very smart indeed. Player profiles handed out on the boat and our boy’s behaviour was a credit to them and to the club. Upon arrival at the hotel the boys went up to bed to be nice and fresh for Saturday’s games.

Saturday morning, all boys on parade for breakfast and ready to play football. We Travelled down to Foote’s lane and set up camp. Our 1st game was against Bristol City Academy We took an early lead and had Bristol on the back foot only for them to equalize in the last 30 seconds, a great start by the boys. Next up Rozel again the boys were fantastic playing the ball about and finished the game wining 2-0. Next up St Martins of Guernsey we started well and our counter attacking at times was a joy to watch and very positive, another 2-0 victory and the lads were buzzing. Next up after lunch we played a big North outfit and the game was very tight, my opinion we should of won however the finished 0-0. Two games left for the Saturday’s Schedule 1st against Guernsey Aztec and the lads got back to wining way with another solid game and a 2-0 victory. Next up Southampton FC and we asked our lads who was better and after a bit of reassurance we went at Southampton and at them we did, we attacked them wave after wave and played the best football of the day with Deano scored our best goal of the weekend we won the game 3-1 and if it wasn’t for their keeper it should have been 7-1.

The boys on a high and top of our league we went back the hotel for a nice relaxing swim all the boys stuck together and had fun. Then Meal time Dress code was fancy dress all the lads and coaches got involved with Leo stealing the show dressed as an Cheerleader, but all the boys and Keith Lemon had fun and even when we were for the meal our boys top draw for behaviour. Home back the hotel the lads played for an hour in the grounds then off to bed to be fresh for Sunday.

Sunday and we had two league games left our 1st was against local rivals Wanderers who were also unbeaten however we put a end to that by beating then two goals to nil with a fantastic team goal with one touch movement and a great finish, but that was a very good result and our boys really enjoyed it. Last off for our league schedule was against Guernsey Rover’s but it was like the Alamo at times and we just couldn’t score 0-0 final score. To finish the league unbeaten and Top with two professional football teams in our pool was not only Brilliant for the boys but also for us coaches and all the supporting parents.

Onto the knockout our 1st game was again tight against Guernsey Sylvans however we always had the edge and got the winning goal late on to progress to the ¼’s, Next up a strong Broughton team and we went behind early the boys pressed and created some chances but with no joy. They got another dodgy goal no comment, the finish 2-0 and we were out the competition but how proud we as coaches were of the boys they were collectively together a joy, and credit to St Peter football academy

So from the coaches of St Peter to the players Thank You, to the parents Thank You to BWCI thank you and well done to all teams who took part, highs and lows but loads of great Footy played.
