St Peter FC – Everton FC Summer Camp Cancelled

St Peter FC regret to announce that the 17th consecutive annual Everton FC Summer Camp which was due to run from the 27th July has been cancelled. The Club has been in regular contact with Everton FC and the two clubs believe the logistical difficulties and the imponderables that currently exist because of the pandemic, make it difficult to provide certainty and the Clubs feel they have no option but to cancel the July event. It is hoped to find an alternative date for later in the year.

Brian Foulser, St Peter FC Academy Chairman commented,

”This is a major disappointment to everyone at St Peter, particularly Mike Horman and all those volunteers who have spent a considerable amount of time planning this important week in the St Peter FC calendar. We appreciate that a great number of young players will be disappointed and upset at missing out on something they have been looking forward to for a long time. It is an event that provides so much enjoyment for around 160 Island youngsters and its longevity speaks volumes. We offer our deepest regret and apologies to all of them”

Everton FC co-ordinator and Senior Community Coach Sean Robertson said

“We were hoping that the situation would have eased, as we always look forward to visiting St Peter and coaching the abundance of talent that exists in Jersey, it is a major highlight in our year. The current restrictions would mean that we would have to quarantine for 14 days in Jersey. The event itself would be severely restricted by social distancing and non-contact. Whilst we hope things will improve, people require certainty and the health and safety of the young players and the coaches attending has been our first consideration. We will be searching for an alternative date when it is hoped we will still run our 17th consecutive annual Summer Camp”

All those players who have registered will receive a full refund and this will be completed over the next 4 weeks.

The St Peter Club will be involved in a major cost limiting exercise as they try to unravel bookings made for air tickets, hotels, marquees and other ancillary necessary support items.

An announcement regarding a revised date for the event to be staged will be made later, if and when a mutually suitable date is found and government restrictions are relaxed. contd
